
I recommend to use one that has SP3 integrated. Get hold of an original Windows XP setup disk or untouched ISO.Eventually I may try a version of Windows XP 64 though. I have never once come across a machine running Windows XP 64bit and driver support is probably not that good. I also have not tested on 64bit versions. However if you have an OEM version you may have success integrating an OEM:SLP pack. AFAIK it is not possible to restore Windows XP activation tokens. Note: I have not tested this on OEM or retail activation versions.

Remember you can create as many images as you want, so in the case of Windows XP I recommend you tailor it to each specific machine.

As I am preparing the image to run on legacy systems Windows updates are not important. I strip out all unnecessary components including windows update.

I recommend that you prepare your image as I do. If you are planning on using Windows XP in 2012 or later you should prepare it in mind to run on legacy systems.
